The Doctors and Nurses are entitled to charge for certain items of work that do not fall under the remit of NHS services.  These items such as medical reports, insurance claim forms, and letters requested for work, school or leisure pursuits are dealt with on a private fee basis.  A deposit of £10 will be collected prior to provision of the service.

GPs are not employed by the NHS, they are self-employed, and they have to cover their costs such as staff, buildings, heating and lighting etc in the same way as any small business.  The NHS covers these costs for NHS work, but for non-NHS work the fee has to cover the doctor’s costs.  Charges are based on BMA guidance and the hourly rate for GP private work which is currently set at £200 per hour.

We cannot guarantee how long it will take the doctors to complete private work.  As a guideline please allow 7-10 working days but please be aware that this may be longer during busy periods as NHS work has to take priority over private work.

If you do not wish to have your details added to the National Spine please let the surgery know and we can add this to your medical record.
